Greetings, delegates!
I’m Timmy Chang, a senior from Dominican Int’l School, and it will be my greatest honor to serve you as the president of UNSC. As someone who enjoys Model UN since freshman, I’ve been participating in numerous conferences such as the past Hsinmun, TASMUN, and YMUNT across all various positions. I can still recall my first conference, freaking out, worrying about my performance and not knowing how to react to any negotiations. Yet, once I made that very first speech, I became more inspired to continue on and light a passion in this event. Today, Model UN is a spectacular experience that makes me step out of my personal circle, love public speaking and debate, and engage more with the world, which is why I hope the same, or any positive impacts goes to you as well! Some facts about me, although I might look serious and emotionless on the outside, I’m actually pretty friendly if you get to know me well so do come to talk to me during breaks or so about anything! Besides Model UN, I enjoy procrastinating (bad habit), debate, BBC shows, and eating ice-cream! Anyhow, I look forward in seeing you all this June!
Hello delegates! I’m Cyrus Chuang, currently a junior in Taichung First Senior High School. This would be my 6th MUN conference and first-time chairing. I’m so delighted to have the opportunity to serve as your co-chair in SECURITY COUNCIL at this year’s DYNAMUN. I hope you all can have tons of achievement by attending Model United Nations, whether you’re here for gaining knowledge, broadening horizons, being more active, or self-challenging. Feel free to come to me whenever for anything. I’d really appreciate the chance the grow with you and learn to see the bigger world through you all’s eyes. I’d love to share one quote with you—To be a MUNer is to change yourself. The world may be too big to be thoroughly changed, but don’t underestimate yourself. As part of the global village, your change would certainly be of some influence. Have faith, be dynamic. Can’t wait to see you all in DYNAMUN 2017.

The United Nations Security Council is one of the six organs of the United Nations. It holds primary responsibility for maintaining international peace and security and is the principal crisis-management organ of the United Nations. The Security Council consists of 15 members, with 5 permanent members, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, France, China, and the Russian Federation having the right to veto any substantive Security Council resolution. The remaining 10 non-permanent members are elected on a regional basis to serve two- year terms. The United Nations General Assembly holds elections each year, customarily in October, for the five non-permanent members which join the Council the following January as the five outgoing non-permanent members finish their two-year terms at the end of December.
The Security Council addresses issues that include civil wars, arm control, arms embargoes, financial penalties and restrictions, and travel bans, severance of diplomatic relations, blockade and collective military action. It request the parties in a dispute to settle through peaceful means, however, reserves the power to impose sanctions and authorize the use of force to maintain international peace and security.
